Rebates Conditions for Victoria
Ceiling insulation is one of the most effective ways to improve the energy efficiency in your home year-round. In winter up to 40% of heat in the home can be lost and in summer up to 30% of heat can be gained through an uninsulated ceiling. Ceiling insulation reduces this heat loss and gain significantly, resulting in large savings on your annual heating and cooling bills. Installing ceiling insulation can save up to 2.2 tonnes of greenhouse gas every year - that's 44,000 black balloons!
The Insulation Rebate program commenced on 13 August 2007 and is available through participating suppliers and installers of insulation.
Am I eligible?
Check your eligibility for an insulation rebate. The following criteria can be used as a guide:
- The ceiling must never have been insulated
- The insulation must have a measured year-round R Value of R3.5 or higher.
- Rebates will not be provided for lower levels of ceiling insulation
- The property must be in Victoria and built before 1991. After 1991 building regulations required new homes to have ceiling insulation installed during construction
The installation must be completed by a participating installer who has completed the required training course to ensure that the insulation is installed effectively
The Rebate is available for properties that are a principal place of residence only. It is also available for rental properties where the occupant/lessee is directly responsible for the energy bills.The rebate is only available for insulating existing homes and will not be provided for new homes or for additions to existing homes.
How much rebate can I get?
A rebate of 30% off the total cost (including GST) of the installed insulation will be available up to $300 For concession card holders a rebate amount of 50% of the total cost (including GST) of the installed insulation will be available up to $500. The rebate amount will be deducted from the total purchase and installation cost of the insulation.
